Attorney Garrett Barten

Mr. Barten is a Registered Patent Attorney who is licensed to practice law in Florida, the District of Columbia, New York and Pennsylvania. He devotes a large portion of his practice to the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the medical device, life science, and mechanical areas.
He also has considerable experience handling trademark matters to include litigating Cancellation and Opposition proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board, as well as experience litigating patent, trademark, and copyright disputes in Federal Court.
Mr. Barten holds a J.D., magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, from the University of Miami School of Law, where he served as an Articles & Comments Editor of the Business Law Review and authored an article entitled Permanent Injunctions: A Discretionary Remedy For Patent Infringement in the Aftermath of the eBay Decision, 16 U. Miami Bus. L. Rev. 1 (2007). Mr. Barten also holds a B.S. in Biological and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University, as well as an M. Eng. in Biological Engineering, also from Cornell, where he was the Head Teaching Assistant for Bioengineering Thermodynamics and Enzyme Kinetics, and a member of Alpha Epsilon, the Honor Society of Agricultural, Food, and Biological Engineering.
Mr. Barten is admitted to practice before the Southern District of New York, Southern District of Florida, and District of Colorado Federal Courts.
Mr. Barten has guest lectured at the University of Miami and Cornell University on intellectual property law topics.
